An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) detained in Israel for almost three months is set to come home to the Philippines on Thursday, Vice President Jejomar Binay said Tuesday.
Binay, who serves as the presidential adviser on OFW concerns, said Winnie Rose Ganaden will be repatriated this week after the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Israel managed to secure her release. "Their involvement and dedication have been instrumental in preventing our kababayan from unjustly spending time in prison," Binay said in a statement.
Ganaden was detained by Israeli authorities last July 19 on allegations from her former employers that she physically abused an elderly.
Ganaden's family claimed that she was "falsely accused" after expressing her intention to leave her employer.
Ganaden was later allowed to be placed under house arrest after she was able to present names of two Israeli guarantors.
