Talambuhay ni Fidel Ramos
Fidel V. Ramos was born on March 18, 1928 in Lingayen, Pangasinan. His parents were Narcisco Rueca Ramos and Angela Marcos Valdez.

He finished his elementary at Lingayen Elementary School as a valedictorian. They eventually moved to Manila. He was taking up high school in U.P when the Japanese invaded the Philippine in 1941. He stopped schooling and instead took up typing and shorthand at the Young Women's Catholic School. One of his classmates here was his future wife, Amelita Martinez.

When war ended, his father went back to being congressman, he continued his high school at Centro Escolar University. He was taking up engineering at the National University when he passed  the examination for the US Military Academy, West Point at New York. He got the highest grade. There, he finished Bachelor of Science in 1950. He took up Master's Degree  in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois.

When he returned to the Philippines in 1951, He was given the rank of Lieutenant and was sent to South Korea in 1952.

When he returned to the Philippines he passed the passed the Board for Civil Engineering. He was then sent to train in Fort Benning, Georgia in the middle of 1950s. He also trained at Fort Bragg (where he finished with honors). It was here that he learned how to combat armed rebellion.

In 1962, Fidel Ramos created the first Special Force in Fort Magsaysay, a unit whose specialty was to infiltrate forces.

He became Brigadier General on December 21, 1970 and became the Chief of the National Constabulary on January 14, 1972. He momentarily held the position of Chief of Staff in 1986 when Gen. Fabian Ver, Chief of Staff, was investigated for his alleged involvement in the assassination of former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino in 1983.

When the group of Juan Ponce Enrile, Minister of Defense led a rebellion against Marcos on February 22, 1986, Fidel Ramos joined them.

When Marcos left the Philippines in February 25, 1986 and Corazon Aquino's term started, Ramos was appointed Chief of Staff of the AFP. He supported the administration of the Pres. Aquino through all the coup d' etats that the "Reform the Arm Forces Movement" (RAM) initiated.

Ramos pushed for national unity. He gathered the ideas of different groups of people and heard their opinions. His presidency  was generally peaceful. He brokered peace with the Muslim and Communist rebels and also with rebellious soldiers. He signed a peace treaty with the Muslim rebels in 1996.

For the economy to really take-off, Ramos withdrew government control from important trade commodities like oil. He supported the country's entry to globalization.

According to economic reports, the Philippine economy improved, and the revenue of the government increased during the Ramos' administration.

Ramos instituted many programs to improve the Philippine economy, including the regularization of trade. He encouraged the Filipino traders to compete with the products from other countries. Ramos believed that competition will improve the Philippine economy.

The lack of electrical supply, a problem that Ramos inherited from the Aquino regime was remedied.

In the art of diplomacy, Ramos excelled as the country made friends with investors from other countries.

He wholeheartedly supported the centennial celebration of Philippine Independence  and launched programs to evoke nationalistic feelings among the Filipinos.

Ramos married Amelita Martinez on October 21, 1953. They had five children.
